AUVS technical guide
AUV Batteries and Power
How rechargeable batteries, primary cells, fuel cells and hotel loads shape endurance.
Core concept
Endurance is a system result, not simply battery capacity divided by motor power. Propulsion speed, sensor load, computing, water temperature, current, buoyancy work and safety reserve all matter.
What engineers and buyers should verify
Rechargeable lithium systems support repeated operations and fast turnaround; primary lithium can extend glider deployments; hydrogen fuel cells enable some long-range architectures. Compare published endurance only when speed, payload and configuration conditions are stated.
Reading specifications responsibly
Configuration, payload, speed and mission conditions matter. AUVS preserves the manufacturer’s published language, marks unavailable values as “Not published,” and links every vehicle record to provenance.
